Point Defiance Engagement: Fiona & Nelson

Nelson proposed to Fiona over Mariah Careys’ “All I Want For Christmas” on Christmas Day. I LOVE me some Mariah, but hearing that story forever changed the sentiment of hearing that song for me forever. I like to think my meeting of Fiona and Nelson was sorta mean-to-be. Fiona and Nelson were living in Austin when we met, but they found me through Calippe Preserve, their wedding venue in the same area that Fiona and I are both originally from. As we were trying to figure out plans for their engagement shoot with me in Seattle and them in Austin, a few months later they said - hey we’re moving to Washington next month! And now, they will be married in Pleasanton, the town where I grew up.

Fiona and Nelson first met in Anthropology class when Nelson spotted Fiona walking in the room. They made some eye contact and Nelson’s life forever changed- she sat next to him. Listen to part of their story from their perspective: “Nelson feeling like he won the jackpot while Fiona was just looking for the closest seat.  With all the school boy crush Nelson could muster he smoothly said, “Hello, do you come here often?" And then, like in all great love stories … Fiona laughed and kindly shot him down. Over the course of the semester, these two (love birds to-be) exchanged enough greetings to make a paragraph. Throughout the next four years at college, Nelson and Fiona shared awkward hellos from afar. And then one night, Fiona re-introduced herself to young Nelson. It felt like poetry or romance … or both. Newly invigorated and slightly intoxicated, they reunited where all relationships destined for greatness start - Tropics Tap House. In an instant, all the old feelings came rushing back.” Nelson nervously mustered up his southern charm and asked her out for Valentine’s Day. And as they say, the rest was history. 5 years later, they can’t wait to be married and start their lives together.

Fiona and Nelson were one of the early couples who had to unfortunately delay their wedding plans due to COVID-19. The week before their wedding was when both California and Washington placed travel bans and limited gathering sizes - I remember being on the phone with them just the week before talking through some last minute details and thinking “naahh we should be fine.”. While I’m so bummed to not be able to watch them get married this year, I’m so excited for their wedding when the day comes next year. Until then, here’s some photos from them being pretty damn adorable during our out at Point Defiance Park in Tacoma where we snuck in some engagement photos. With her gorgeous smile and the undeniably loving way that Nelson looks at her, you cant’t help but fall in love with them. :)
